Tell Your Story…Often!

As a school leader, I would often see the media reports on the failings in public education; the wasteful spending by a district, the troubling leadership within a charter school, or the state testing results of students falling well below proficiency in math, science, and language arts.  My reaction was not to turn the page and move on; it caused me to review and elevate the results that I was seeing within my educational community.

Parents, guardians, and community members want and need continual reminders of how schools are performing in their neighborhoods.  They value knowing that their tax dollars are not being wasted and that students are growing academically.  It is an obligation of every school leader to tell their story, elevate the results of students, and to honor their teams for making it happen.  When students are achieving their personal best, a school is meeting their obligation as an educational place of learning.

When you read a troubling report, like the one in EdSource , be the school leader taking the time to educate your parents, guardians, board members, city officials, and state leaders on your results.  Use your standing and student data to tell your story of success because not every school is failing and not every student is struggling.

There are great things happening across the Golden State in education and when you tell your story you are reminding others of that truth and the importance of your educational organization to the community.
